The Burj Al Arab is a spectacular hotel set on its very own man made island 280m off shore. The furnishing is lavish while the dramatic floor to ceiling windows offers panoramic views of the Arabian Gulf. The hotel is situated around 25 minutes from Dubai airport.
Structure & Design
Construction on this architectural and engineering marvel commenced in 1994. At 321 meters high, Burj Al Arab is taller than the Eiffel Tower and only 60 meters shorter than the Empire State Building. With its helipad on the 28th floor and its ‘Al Muntaha’ restaurant suspended 600ft above the Gulf, this hotel has already become a landmark and icon on the Dubai skyline. The sail façade represents an astonishing technical challenge, featuring a double-skinned Teflon-coated woven glass fibre screen. It is the first time such technology has been used in such a form and to such an extent. By day the hotel is a dazzling white but by night it is used as a canvas for a rainbow of spectacular light displays which provide a brilliant entrance to the marvels that await the guest inside. Combining the latest technology with a long-standing reputation of Arabian hospitality, Burj Al Arab symbolizes the very essence of Dubai, embracing the best of the new alongside traditions of the past.
